Nothing special
It's.... okay, I suppose? Lots of crying kids, a grown man who needs to learn how to control himself and inaccuracy about Mustangs (Even something as simple as where they live in Wyoming!) and their behaviors (Lol no, a two year old stud colt is NOT going to gentle down after a few hours of kindness) abound.
The prose is rather simple, even for a preteen audience and various characters seem to exist for the most minor of reasons. It leaves the main conflict feeling like it's too easily solved, yet also bloated with characters that simply weren't needed.
It's...competent if nothing else, but not particularly special. This author later wrote better books about horses (Including one with virtually the same plot line!) and MUCH more accurate books about Mustangs have been published before and since then.
